Interview at Art Radar

How did you get into art?

I was inseparable from art since I can remember. Drawing and painting was my favourite thing to do when I was a child, and it still is now. I studied painting at Vilnius Academy of Arts, and whilst there it felt like being at home. I instantly knew that I made the right decision by choosing to study arts.

Going Back to My Roots - solo exhibition

  • Viewing Room, Unit 8, Thames-Side Studios (map)

For our first exhibition in 2023 in the Viewing Room Diana Savostaite (Studio 5-236) presents new large format shaped paintings.

Come and join us for the Private View on Friday 13 January 2023, 6-9pm

Exhibition Dates: 9 January - 5 February 2023

Going Back to My Roots is a solo presentation including both - large, shaped paintings and mini abstract paintings by Diana Savostaite.

The Exhibition title refers to finding an integral connection between mind, body, and the surrounding world. Throughout her practice, Diana takes inspiration from the observation of the natural world, and absorption of everything that she sees, hears, or feels.

Her creative practice seeks to express that which is invisible by eye but what can be experienced or felt, by grasping the subtle moments of the present and feeling it through body sensations.

Since 2019, Diana has been broadening her artwork boundaries through introducing large scale shaped canvas formats, as well as experimenting with mixed mediums, textures, collages. Experimental canvas shapes become directives to Diana’s painting, they seem to be in a constant motion and highlight the feeling of ever-changing nature, the flow of energies between inside and out.

In her latest artwork, Diana started to incorporate embroidery collages. Whilst growing up in the Lithuanian countryside, embroidery occupied a big part of her lifetime. Adding them to  her paintings is like weaving in a little piece of Lithuanian heritage, something that is very personal and deeply rooted from the beginning.

Thames-Side Studios Viewing Room is located on the ground floor of Unit 8. Entrance to Unit 8 is via The Atrium. Turn left upon entering the main site, walk through The Atrium turning to the left, to find the exhibition located between studios TB-10 and TB-09.

Spring Awakening - London Paint Club

As we finally emerge out of winter and into spring, the world seems to be coming alive again. Not only is nature feeling this re-birth, but artists from all over the world are contemplating what it means to create art in today’s shifting landscape and have been challenged to discover new ways of presenting their ideas to new audiences. This exhibition aims to show that art still has the ability to cross borders, boundaries and lockdowns – regardless of location, race, nationality, age, gender or professional career level. The London Paint Club Open Call welcomes all applicants and we are thrilled to announce this diverse group of artists from around the globe.

London Paint Club was created during the global pandemic in March 2020, and saw the potential and necessity of social media to spread art, ideas and inspiration around the world. Through our exhibition guide, we are able to give more exposure to young galleries as well as global art institutions – bringing the attention of larger audiences to more localized gallery spaces in London.

Royal Academy of Arts - Summer Exhibition 2020

252 years ago, a group of artists made it their mission to form an annual exhibition to support artists and architects, by showcasing art of the moment to the nation. The Summer Exhibition has run uninterrupted ever since: a backdrop to famous artistic rivalries of the past and now a fixture of the summer calendar for art seekers, year after year.

Coordinated by artistic duo Jane and Louise Wilson RA, this autumn is set to be just as uplifting – you are sure to see art you love, art you hate, and art that puts a smile on your face. You might even find art to take home.

This year’s exhibition includes new works by Tracey Emin, Rebecca Horn, Anselm Kiefer, Julian Schnabel, Gillian Wearing and Ai Weiwei.
