Unfolding Patterns (1 & 2)
Unfolding Patterns (1 & 2)
Charcoal, pigments, marble dust, glitter on paper, 268 × 300cm (two paintings), 2026
“Unfolding Patterns” is a pair of mixed media paintings created through a process-led approach combining chance and control. Charcoal is crushed between layered sheets of paper and activated through walking, allowing marks to form naturally through pressure and movement.
Further layers of pigment, glitter and marble dust are applied over scattered branches and cut-out paper stencils, building a highly tactile surface where abstract patterns gradually emerge.
One work remains light and open, shaped largely by chance, while the other is dark and more structured through additional intervention. Together, they explore duality within the making process - spontaneity and control, chaos and order - reflecting how opposing forces coexist in both art and life.
