“Transformative Matter” is a multi-layered artwork that explores materials through experimental techniques. The top layer is made from a repurposed old frame, reshaped and painted with pigments and marble dust to embody a weathered, organic quality. The middle layer consists of handmade recycled paper, moulded into a thick, textured surface - one section covered in real rust, the other layered with pigments and oil paint. The final cut-out plywood layer is coated with multiple applications of oil paint, marble dust, and wax, creating depth and tactility. Made entirely by hand, the piece reflects a deep personal connection to the creative process.

Observing my surroundings along the river Thames, I am drawn to tidal movements and their traces on the sand, rusted river walls, and remnants of decayed boats and objects. These elements prompt reflections on temporality, decay, regeneration, and the constant flux of life.

In this artwork, I focus on process, materials, and meaning. By removing the old canvas and reshaping the frame into an organic, ribcage-like form, I express an ending that transforms into a new beginning. Composed entirely of tree-based materials (wood, paper, and plywood) the piece challenges traditional painting techniques, embracing entropy and intuition over order and perfection.
